‘Namami Brahmaputra Festival’ : President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurates India’s ‘Largest’ River Fest

The President Shri. Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the Namami Brahmaputra festival in Guwahati, Assam.

The event took off in the form of a spectacular opening ceremony at the riverfront of Bharalumukh, Guwahati.

Highlights of Namami Brahmaputra

•    The Namami Brahmaputra festival was conceived by the Government of Assam to strengthen the bonds among various communities of the State.

•    The festival will be celebrated in 21 districts of the State that are located along the Brahmaputra in its entire stretch from Sadiya to Dhubri.

•    During the festival, Assam’s potential in trade, tourism and cultural opportunities will be showcased to the outside world.

•    The 5-day long festival includes a soulful veneration of river Brahmaputra along with other attractions like indigenous sports, local food, exhibition of organic tea, display of handloom and handicrafts, cultural evenings, film festival, business meetings and symposium among others.

•    The conclusion of the event will be equally spectacular with a grand closing ceremony on 4 April 2017.

•    Brahmaputra, which is also called as the Lifeline of Assam, presents incredible business opportunities.

•    The National Waterways, especially NW 2 and NW16, are the drivers of economic development and prosperity.

•    National Waterways 2 (NW-2) from Dhubri to Sadiya is a bridge to drive economic progress in the Southeast Asian markets, as part of India’s ‘Act East Policy’.

•    These waterways will not only make Assam the centre of India-ASEAN collaboration, but also attract major investments from around the world.
